Frequently asked
I forgot my master password.
It cannot be recovered. There is no account and no server, so there is nowhere to send a reset link, and we cannot open your vault either. That is also what keeps Gumlock safe.
The only way forward is Forgot Master Password? on the lock screen, which erases that vault so you can start again. If you later remember an old master password, you can restore an encrypted backup made with it.
Do I need an account?
No. You only choose a master password the first time. There is no sign-in screen.
Where are my passwords stored?
On your device, encrypted. If you turn on iCloud or Google Drive sync (Gumlock Pro), the same encrypted data is also kept in your own iCloud or Google Drive — neither Apple, Google nor we can read it. The app connects to the internet itself only for Google Drive sync.
AutoFill doesn't work in Safari.
Turn on Gumlock under Settings > General > AutoFill & Passwords on your iPhone. Settings > Open AutoFill Settings in the app takes you straight there.
Gumlock then appears above the keyboard on sign-in pages. For a site you haven't saved yet, you can choose Save New Account right there.
How do I unlock with Face ID?
You can turn on Face ID when you create a vault, or later under Settings > Security. Your master password is still needed sometimes — for example after restarting the device.
How do I back up?
Use Settings > Backup > Export Encrypted Backup and keep the file somewhere other than this device, such as iCloud Drive or a computer. A backup is encrypted with the master password in use at the time.
With Gumlock Pro, Automatic Backup saves backups to a folder you choose on a schedule.
What if I get a new phone?
If you used iCloud sync (Pro) — install the app on the new device, tap Restore from iCloud on the first screen, and open the vault with your master password.
If you used Google Drive sync (Pro) — tap Restore from Google Drive on the first screen and connect the same Google account. This is also how you move from Gumlock for Android to an iPhone.
If not — tap Restore from Backup on the first screen and choose your encrypted backup file.
Can I move to another password manager?
Any time. Settings > Export Unencrypted (CSV) creates a file that Apple Passwords and others can import. That file is not encrypted — delete it as soon as you've moved.
What is free?
Security features are always free: unlimited items, AutoFill, Face ID, encryption, encrypted backup and restore, CSV export, account owners and favorites.
Gumlock Pro (one-time purchase, not a subscription) adds iCloud and Google Drive sync, automatic backup, attachments, multiple vaults, custom fields and widgets. If you stop using Pro, your data still opens.
How do I restore my purchase?
Tap Settings > Gumlock Pro > Restore Purchase. It comes back on any device signed in to the same Apple Account. Family Sharing is supported.
How do I change the app language?
In the app, go to Settings > Language. English, Korean, German, Spanish and Japanese are available.
